HR / Payroll Manager

Pillsbury Senior Communities is looking for a Full Time HR & Payroll Manager to join our team in South Burlington, VT. Our mission is to make a difference in the changing lives of seniors by providing a safe homelike community with a compassionate and caring staff.  We pride ourselves on the astounding care and services we provide our residents. 

Job Summary:

Full responsibility for hands on HR / Payroll functions including recruitment, new hire on-boarding, and personnel policies and procedures. Required processing of bi-weekly payrolls. Works closely with other managers of our 6 Vermont locations. Need knowledge of employee relations and applicable labor, pay, benefits, health and safety laws and regulations. A mature approach to handing confidential information is critical.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Payroll

  • Manage the preparing and processing of payroll ensuring compliance with all Federal, State, and Local laws regarding payroll administration
  • Respond to payroll related inquiries both internally and externally
  • Good understanding of state and federal wage and hour laws
  • Review payroll schedules & compare to actual time worked
  • Process payroll exceptions, missed punches and payroll deductions
  • Enter On Call pay
  • Process CTO requests
  • Transmit payroll bi-weekly in a timely manner
  • Distribute paychecks
  • Prepare garnishment payments
  • Prepare workers comp insurance reports
  • Maintain employee files and keep information up to date
  • Update payroll software for new employees, terminations and other changes
  • Set up and assign timecards for new employees
  • Research and respond to unemployment claim notification
  • Audit and administer terminated employee files
  • Employment verification for active and terminated employees
  • Ensure an organized system for records and documentation that supports location ease and historical reference
  • Maintain, develop, or improve upon a variety of reports

HR

  • Writes and places advertisements both internally and externally as well as conducts recruitment events
  • Review resumes, conduct first round interviews and forward to appropriate managers in a timely manner. Maintain search documentation for files.
  • Perform background screenings on potential new employees, determine eligibility based on results and inform managers of decision. Produce variance letters as necessary
  • Maintain and update employee files and documents.
  • Schedules and conducts new hire orientation in order to ensure compliance with all current policies and regulations
  • Processes employee benefits which include communicating benefit information to the employees, enrolling employees in Medical/Dental/401K/Voluntary Benefits, etc.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • General Math Skills, Data Entry Skills, Written Communication skills, Microsoft Office Skills, Self-Development, Financial Skills
  • 3-5 years of applicable experience managing the payroll process and performing HR duties
  • Related degree or commensurate experience
  • Ability to maintain a current knowledge base of payroll, benefits, and HR related trends and processes
  • Knowledge of payroll and payroll tax regulations and employment laws
  • Solid history of providing exceptional service both internally and externally
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with FLMA, ADA, Disability Leaves, Dept. of Labor, FLSA, ERISA, HIPAA and EEOC
